⎕ Check your eligibility
It’s always a good idea to check in with your program advisor regarding your eligibility to participate in the commencement ceremony. For more information about your eligibility, please view this page.
⎕ Apply to graduate
The Spring 2023 Application to Graduate will be available via MyAccess until May 1, 2023. Only students who will complete all degree requirements by the end of the spring semester should apply to graduate. Please see “Apply to Graduate” for more information.
⎕ RSVP for the Commencement Ceremony
An invitation to RSVP will be sent from scsgrad@georgetown.edu via Marching Order 5-8 weeks in advance of the ceremony. The form will include an opportunity to provide name pronunciation and claim tickets in the event of an indoor ceremony (more information below). Please make sure to RSVP by the provided deadline.
⎕ Guest Information
The SCS Commencement Ceremony is being planned as an outdoor event. Outdoor ceremonies will not require tickets; guests are seated on a first come, first served basis.
If the ceremony is moved indoors due to extreme weather or other extenuating circumstances, graduates will be limited to two guests due to indoor capacity restrictions at McDonough Arena and the high number of SCS graduates. Graduates will be able to claim their two guest tickets via the Marching Order site using the password they created upon registration. Graduates do not need a ticket to attend the ceremony.
The event will also be live-streamed for family and friends.
⎕ Order your regalia
Academic regalia is required to participate in the commencement ceremony and can be purchased in person or online from the University bookstore. Students must have a gown, hood, and cap/tassel or tam/tassel for the ceremony. Stoles and keepsake tassels are available for purchase but are not required.
Avoid the rush the week of Commencement and ensure that you receive your mandatory regalia. We recommend that you purchase your regalia by no later than Friday, May 5 to ensure that you receive it in time. For more information about ordering regalia, visit this page.
⎕ Call for Content: Stories from the Class of 2023
Share your triumphs, obstacles, and biggest takeaways while earning your degree for a chance to be featured in one of three ways; in an article on our website, on SCS’s TikTok (just launched!), or on our Instagram for a live takeover on Commencement day.
We invite you to submit this form so that we may best showcase you. You may submit either a written or a video response. Video responses are required if you are interested in being featured on Instagram or TikTok. To be considered, you must answer at least two of the questions with no more than three sentences.
Please submit your responses by 5:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 29.
⎕ Keep an eye out
Keep checking your Georgetown.edu email address for more information about the event as it becomes available. *Note: If you do not RSVP for the Commencement Ceremony, you will NOT receive these important emails.
Please bookmark the SCS Commencement microsite for up-to-date information. For general University updates, please follow Georgetown’s Commencement landing page.
⎕ Attend the ceremony
You will receive additional information about day-of logistics in your Georgetown.edu inbox. Students should report to their designated program spaces before the ceremony with their regalia. Students without regalia will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony.
